Open plan living in the Wessex Milbourne

There are eight standard floor plans in the Milbourne Holiday Lodge range, from the 36ft x 20ft two bedroom to the 42ft x 20ft three bedroom, but it is available in larger sizes if requested.

It's the 40ft x 20ft two-bed version that is reviewed here.

You enter the living area via the side door; the cloaks/boiler cupboard is to the right, a decent size for a few coats, shoes, buckets and spades and the like.

The open plan living area has a vaulted tongue-and-groove ceiling in white that the chrome ceiling light will reflect softly. It also has French doors to the exterior, plus full length windows to two walls.

There’s an electric fire with a medium oak surround as the focal point of the room and two free-standing sofas.

In the dining area the ash-coloured Italian table and four chairs are a contemporary style and the mocha faux suede seat covers co-ordinate well with the curtains.

The kitchen is the time honoured L shape, but an island unit set at an angle changes the shape to triangular – creating a very sociable space – while also housing the built-under fridge and freezer.

The cooking appliances are a four burner gas hob with extractor and a single built-in electric oven; the built-in combination microwave is an option.

A stainless steel bowl sink unit is under the window, with a dishwasher and washing machine as standard (a washer dryer is an option) hidden behind light oak doors.

A door leads from the living area to an inner hall, with white walls.

Immediately left is the master bedroom. There are two light oak bedside cabinets with a double power point above each, and four downlighters in the ceiling controlled by a dimmer. There’s a TV point and another double power point, too, to the left of the window, a full-length mirror and two decent sized wardrobes, with shelves above the hanging rails.

The en-suite shower room has a white suite with a pedestal basin and chrome radiator.

Bedroom two is spacious and gets double power points, a well-placed TV point on the wall opposite the beds and lighting by three downlighters.

The bathroom offers an over-bath, thermostatically controlled shower as an option, but has a shower mixer run off the bath taps as standard. There are chrome accessories and an acrylic shower screen.

Verdict:

There is certainly a feeling of spaciousness in this holiday lodge and judicious use of calm and bold colours, fabrics and textures enhances the overall contemporary feel of this holiday lodge.
