2017 Pemberton Serena static caravan review

Re-styled for 2017, the Serena has a stunning interior and bags of space.

The Pemberton Serena is one of their most popular mid-priced caravans and for 2017 they’ve given it a brand new look. These modifications include new furnishings, new style windows and changes to the layout in the two-bedroomed model.

Pemberton Serena Front Left Elev

These include a new side entrance hallway, a large family bathroom as well as a roomy en-suite to the master and twin rooms, both of which have been re-orientated to get the most out of the 13ft width.

The Pemberton Serena range also has the option of a three bedroomed model with a king sized bed in the master bedroom and giving accommodation for up to eight guests. This also has a bath as standard in the main bathroom.

Pemberton Serena Dormer

From the outside, the Pemberton Serena at first glance seems to have a fairly standard look in both styling and shape, but look again and you’ll see the addition of a twin dormer canopy midway down each side. These dormers are positioned above the kitchen and entrance door and allow not only light to flood in but break up the usual pitched roofline – a welcome addition!

The Serena stands on a pre galvanised twin axle chassis and is available in four different types of cladding – from vinyl and aluminium to timber and Canexcel. Various colours can be specified to suit both taste and location.

Insulation in walls and under the floor is 60mm of fibreglass with the roof having a beefy 150mm. There are uPVC gutters and drain pipes and the flooring uses moisture-resistant boards and all exposed pipework is fully lagged. All windows and doors are uPVC double-glazed and on our review model there was a large French style door with a double opening at the front with tall windows at either side. There’s also an overhang to the roof at the front end with four inset LED downlights. Pemberton can also offer a choice of decking options in a variety of colours and styles, along with exterior lighting.

Stepping through the side access door into the Serena you immediately notice that it has a side access corridor to your right.  This allows the kitchen to be spaced more effectively with, usually, more in the way of cabinets and worktop space.

Pemberton Serena Kitchen From Lounge

To the left is the lounge which has been updated this year with bright new furnishings and fabrics in shades of grey with accents of lemon in the scatter cushions and lime green in the curtains and blinds. The floor is fully carpeted in grey and you also get a nice contrasting rug.  Furnishings comprise twin two seater sofas, a free standing armchair and a square, upholstered ottoman footstool with storage inside. There’s also a small side table and one of the sofas conceals a pull out bed for occasional use.

Pemberton Serena Lounge Main

Central to the lounge is a fireplace with traditional mantle and flame effect fire, with space above for a flat panel television. To the left is a low unit which contains the digital TV box and DVD player and table lamp on top.  The lounge is both light, (LED downlights have been incorporated into the vaulted ceiling), bright and stylish and we particularly liked the mantelpiece, which is a real focal point in the room.

The kitchen on the Serena is very well appointed with everything you could need for the preparation of holiday meals. Set in a large ‘C’ shape, it features plenty of  cabinets both under the worktop and on the wall with a feature dividing set of cabinets supported on a chrome post that has the effect of separating the kitchen from the lounge without entirely closing off the space. Cupboards are in a shaker style in cream with light oak end panels and contrasting slate worktops.  All have soft close mechanisms for that added luxurious touch.

Pemberton Serena Kitchen Cooker and Cabinets

You also get a large sink with mixer tap and a five-burner hob with externally vented extractor hood in curved glass.  There’s an integrated cooker with separate oven and grill as well as a built in microwave oven and an integrated fridge/freezer. Little touches like the pull out waste bin in one of the cupboards and that overhead dividing cupboard with storage shelves on the lounge side really set this luxurious kitchen apart.

Pemberton Serena Dormer Internal View

The addition of the dormer canopies in the ceiling add both roominess and height and are particularly effective over the dining area where you are provided with a nice sized table and four upholstered dining chairs.

The twin bedroom which is the first room on your left as you enter the sleeping accommodation is fairly spacious with room to just about get between the two beds.  The room has a comfortable feel made more so by the duvet covers, cushions and bed throws which are in a relaxing light green and cream colour. You get a wardrobe at the foot of one bed near the door and there’s also a door to the main bathroom – a nice, welcome touch!  On the three bed Serena, one of the twin rooms gains a little extra space by having bunk beds and for families with more than the usual ‘two point four’ children this might be a useful option.

The main bathroom is nicely appointed with a three quarter length bath which is fitted with a tap operated shower and has a glass screen covering half the length of the bath.  There’s a pedestal handbasin and the usual low profile button flush toilet.  One very nice touch is a large storage cabinet with mirrored door above the basin. The room is decorated in timber shades and the floor is covered in an easy-to-clean vinyl.  As mentioned, there are access doors to both the twin bedroom as well as the side corridor which allows the toilet to be used by everyone at all times.

Pemberton Serena Bathroom Wide

The master bedroom is located across the back of the Serena.  It’s a nice, big space with a centrally positioned king sized bed with a huge padded headboard and two bedside tables with art deco style reading lights on the wall. At the foot of the bed is a dressing table with mirror and storage shelves plus a stool.  To one side are two mirrored doors, which lead you into a superb walk in wardrobe with masses of hanging space and shelving for shoes and handbags, etc.

Another door takes you into the private en -suite bathroom with its shower cubicle, handbasin and toilet. This room is not at all cramped and is a very nice addition to the master bedroom suite.

Verdict

Pemberton have re-worked the layout and styling of the Serena giving it a new lease of life.  The use of stylish fabrics and furnishings coupled with that double dormer in the kitchen really have made a difference. This is a static caravan that is both stylish and practical and the two models offered give it a broad appeal to couples as well as larger family groups.
