2019 Willerby Linwood static caravan review

Aimed at the first time holiday caravan buyer the Linwood ticks all the right boxes at bargain prices!

Willerby are no strangers to the entry-level holiday caravan market, over the years they’ve covered all the market sectors and successfully too.

With over 70 years of expertise in the caravan market, Willerby has produced some of the UK’s best selling holiday caravans and have recently upgraded their showground so customers can look at most of their range. No sales folk are present; it’s purely a show area so customers can compare spec and layouts.

Willerby haven’t rested on their laurels for 2019 and here we take a look at one of their new models from the new Linwood line up.

The new Linwood range offers plenty of scope, sleeping from six to 10 people. The 35ft x 12ft two-bedroomed layout here can sleep up to seven, using the settee bed in the lounge area. Prices are very competitive, so what do you get for your cash?

The exterior is clad in sandstone painted aluminium with PVCU double glazed windows and doors. Our review model had the optional front aspect door, too, which it’s thought most buyers will plump for. The chassis isn’t galvanised but it’s another option you can specify with the Deluxe pack.

Step into the Linwood and you know you’re not in an all-out luxury static caravan but then it doesn’t feel spartan either. With the optional front double doors, the lounge area boasts space and a light airy feel. The side L-shaped settee will seat five with ease and opposite is the area for the TV and electric fire to be fitted.

A side wall dinette comes with bench seating – one backed the other with no back support.

Just opposite the dining table is the kitchen, which has a gas oven and hob, while a microwave is optional. There’s plenty of worktop and cupboard storage too, and a fridge freezer is opposite, near the side door, along with the boiler. Again it’s easy to add upgrade options in the kitchen such as a dishwasher.

From the lounge and kitchen area, you have a small corridor with the twin bedroom on the left and the family bathroom to the right. The bathroom has a shower cubicle, loo and hand basin plus a large side window too. It’s quite a compact area but remains practical at the same time and has a useful cupboard, with shelving above.

The twin bedroom offers two beds, of course, as well as a wardrobe and mirror, plus a small cabinet between the two beds. A large side window allows in plenty of natural light, and like the rest of the Linwood, ceiling spotlights add great night lighting.

At the end of the corridor is the double bedroom and as the other two-bed model comes with a king-sized bed.

This bedroom also has an en-suite which features a loo and hand basin. Double wardrobes, plus a built-in dressing table, with useful storage, offers plenty of room for personal belongings.

Verdict: The new Linwoods are, as-they-say-on-the-tin-“starter holiday caravans” – basic but with a list of options allowing you the specification to suit your needs. The Linwood 35 x 12 will prove a hit with families new to the holiday caravan market. Overall then, a good value holiday caravan with excellent upgrade choices, ideal for those wanting an upgrade from an older static.

Plus points: Spacious front lounge area; well-planned kitchen with great worktop and storage; and good sized bedrooms.

Minus points: Adding central heating racks up more than £1,800 to the price; not much storage in the lounge area, and only one shower.

In a nutshell: Great value static caravan to which you can add extras as needed, and its modern looking interior and quality build also appeals.

  1. What is the insulation standard of this caravan? Having owned a couple of statics, I have been disappointed at the poor standard of insulation. Even having a pitched roof, with ample space to add some serious blanket insulation, all you get is a thin foil backed sheet tacked to the rafters. No wonder these ‘vans heat up in summer and are ruinous to heat in the cooler months!

    1. Hi Ian, modern holiday homes (including Willerby’s) have made great strides forward in energy efficiency in recent years. All Willerby holiday homes (even value models like the Linwood) feature double glazing and none of their homes are rated less than 7.4 out of 10 for energy efficiency by the National Caravan Council.

  2. Why dont they have plastic lining like they do in North America to keep the wind out. ?

  3. Insulation on houses and trailers in north america is a layer of plastic surround . why dont they do that in UK
