2021 Victory Beckwood Lodge

Victory has reinvented its range for 2021, with innovation at the heart of styling, and robust build at the heart of construction.

Points to note include tongue-and-groove finish, to vaulted ceilings, and smooth, seemless wall-boarding (Victory calls it ‘bead-less’, to give it the correct name).

Along with a new range of lodges, Victory has launched a show area, close to its factory at Gilberdyke in East Yorkshire. There are plenty of units to see, and the refinements of decking and planting were under way at the time of our visit.

The Beckwood had pride of place on the showground, complete with raised wooden planters, large sandstone boulders and neat, conical conifers.

The Beckwood, one of six in the new range, is an extraordinary holiday lodge. As you step inside, your instant impression is that this lodge looks rather more like an apartment than a holiday home. That’s down to the layout, with the lounge, kitchen and dining area in the centre of the unit and bedrooms at each end.

It’s a splendid layout. There’s a wide-open feel about the central area; plenty of space for each of the three functions (lounging, dining and cooking), yet all integrated into one, well-designed living zone. It’s an obviously superb stage for family holiday conviviality.

The backdrop is the Victory Beckwood’s kitchen, stretching along the wall and ending with an L-shape. Six base cabinets and four drawers, plus four top cabinets, together amount to lots of storage space.

The four-burner hob sits in the middle of the kitchen cabinet run, on a smart, black glass base; the extractor fan, above the hob, is neatly integrated into the cabinet suite. And there’s ample surface space, between the sink and hob and, uninterrupted, along the rest of the kitchen and continuing into the L-shaped area. There’s plenty of space for more than one person to create culinary delights; a great family kitchen, then.

Visually, this kitchen is charmingly modern, with plain, matt fawn cabinetry finished with smart little black knobs. Our review example is equipped with a microwave (that’s an optional extra), smoothly integrated into the top cabinets. A dishwasher is also available as an option.

The L-shape of the giant sofa follows the line of the kitchen; plenty of seating space, plus there’s a free-standing footstool that can be placed at one end of the sofa or moved elsewhere to suit your needs.

The fawn cabinet style of the kitchen continues opposite, for the frontage of the television cabinet, here melded with pale woodwork that continues as a full-height wall feature. The log-effect fire makes sure there’s a cosy focal point to the lounge.

And so to bed… The two bed zones of the Victory Beckwood follow the spacious scene set by the living area. First, the twin bedroom. And there’s a surprise. The beds are positioned at right-angles to one another, with more floor space than you’d expect in a twin room.

This arrangement is far more appealing than the standard side-by-side layout, because each bed has its own area. So, teenage offspring, in particular, will like this configuration, simply because they’re further away from one another! Close by is a shower room, with the luxury of a heated towel rail.

At the other end of the lodge is the main bedroom, with an en-suite shower room and walk-in wardrobe, complete with a light that comes on automatically when you open the door.

And the exterior? Actually, the Victory Beckwood looks quite plain in style, almost boxy, with no clue to its stunning layout and its Scandinavian-inspired styling.

As standard, the Beckwood has aluminium cladding in a shade called champagne. Buyers can opt for CanExel, timber, Artefoam plastic or different coloured aluminium cladding. And, while we’re talking about exterior options, the Victory Beckwood comes as standard with a painted chassis; a fully galvanised chassis is an option to consider, especially if you are siting your Beckwood near to the coast, where salty air can, long-term, have an adverse effect on a chassis that’s not fully galvanised.

You might also like to consider adding Victory’s Lifestyle Pack (UPVC double glazing, combi-boiler and radiator central heating); that adds £3,000 to the cost.

This home is also available in a three-bedroom layout (that’s also 39ft x 12ft) – and the sofa hides a secret; it can be transformed into an extra bed.

As much as we like the centre-lounge, bedrooms-at-both-ends layout of the Beckwood, it’s good to know that, for buyers who prefer the classic arrangement with bedrooms at one end and the day area at the other, a front-lounge derivative is due to be launched in February 2022. Victory is then going to take the Beckwood offering a stage further, with a 13ft-wide, centre lounge version that will have the option for buyers to upgrade to residential specification.

Verdict: If you’ve holidayed in apartments and now fancy a holiday lodge that gives you the same feel, take a closer look at the Victory Beckwood lodge. Its fabulous centre living area gives you space aplenty and the bedrooms at each end make sure that everyone feels they have their own area of the lodge.

The twin room seems to have been designed with teenage offspring in mind; we love the idea of twin beds at right angles to one another, with each bed getting its own area of the room.

Minus points: You have to go for the Lifestyle Pack to get central heating.

Plus points: The bedrooms well separated from one another, at each end of the unit; the twin beds set at right angles, with lots of floor space; ample kitchen surface area.

In a nutshell: With a centrally-positioned lounge and bedrooms at either end, the Victory Beckwood has apartment appeal – and two bed zones.
