The Willerby Malton static caravan has instant family practicality appeal.
Designed for affordability with everything you need but no excesses to load the price – and this is a three-bedroom holiday caravan.
You step inside the Willerby Malton static caravan, either from the side door or the double full-height doors at the front, straight into the open-plan kitchen-dining-lounge. Open plan, yes, but the lounge feels well separated by the position of one of the two sofas, which forms a demarcation between the lounge and the dining kitchen.
So, lounge first. One three seater sofa and one two seater, plus a circular stool and, in the centre of the room, a low footstool seat… That’s where we perch to compose this review!
It’s easy to picture the Willerby Malton in full family mode; plenty of floor space and plenty of places to put stuff on a long, low table that’s ideal for a television of any size, plus shelving above, and a separate coffee table.
The lovely low footstool has a trick up its sleeve. Lift the top and you find a good-sized area to hide away magazines and all manner of other paraphernalia which would otherwise make the room look untidy; a really nice practical touch.
The television unit has a desk-style circular aperture that enables you to feed cables down the back out of sight, another practical feature of the Willerby Malton that we like.
The dining table sits conveniently in the centre of the kitchen. Cream, leather-look upholstered chairs makes sure there’s exceptional comfort for four. The circular stool from the lounge can be placed at one end of the table to enable five to eat together.
We love the pastel turquoise, grey, fawn and cream soft furnishings scheme in the Willerby Malton. It’s essentially modern, yet also imparts a look of cosy comfort.
The kitchen’s L-shape creates ample surface for major meal making, in three separate areas. Think little helpers and separate little food tasks for them and you’re somewhere near to understanding the Malton’s family practicality here.
Cooking equipment is a four-burner hob, oven and grill with an extractor fan above. A grey glass splash-back takes care of cooking work here. A tall fridge-freezer stands by the door. There’s no microwave but, if one is important to your cooking style, there’s plenty of surface on which to place a microwave and three mains sockets provide a choice of places for it.
Three top cabinets and four lower cupboards, plus a fitted cutlery drawer, give you plenty of storage space.
Along the corridor to the sleeping and washing quarters you find another of the Malton’s practical features: four double coat hooks; outdoor wear doesn’t necessarily have to take up wardrobe space.
The two twin rooms both have wardrobes. They also have two USB ports, plus two mains sockets. Both also have mirrors.
The Willerby Malton differs from the majority of holiday homes, in that the main bedroom doesn’t have an en-suite. It does have four USB ports though, plus four mains sockets and a television aerial point.
And hiding away in this bedroom is the answer to the question that the Malton’s dining arrangement raises; there’s a circular stool here, matching the one in the lounge.
You can move the table out away from the settee to enable you to fit a stool at each end so it becomes a dining suite for six.
The Malton has two toilet rooms, one with just a washbasin, the other with a large shower. Both rooms have the luxury of towel warmers.
Verdict: Not in the luxury class, with no excesses such as dishwasher and washing machine, and with single beds that are of a width ideal for children rather than adults, the Willerby Malton gives a family of up to six all that they need for superb leisure time. If you want a microwave, you can buy one. Everything else that you need is here and it’s modern and appealing. We love it.
Plus points: Lots of practicalities and lots of USB ports. Lovely kitchen with enough space to involve the kids in meal prep.
Minus points: It’s a six berth, yet the table is a little small for six place settings.
In a nutshell: Well designed for family holidays and with lots of practicality and a very comfortable lounge, the all-new Willerby Malton will have strong appeal to buyers looking for value as well as bright, modern styling.
