The ABI Windermere offers a modern design both inside and out – this two-bedroomed static caravan from ABI doesn’t disappoint!
This Beverley-based company has had a long heritage in holiday caravans, in fact next to Willerby and Pemberton it is one of the oldest static caravan manufacturers in the UK.
We reviewed the 40ft x 13ft 2023 ABI Windermere static caravan at Holgates’ Far Arnside Holiday Park in Carnforth – an ideal setting for such a look.
The exterior was clad in a neutral green CanExcel and there are lovely front patio doors as well as a side entrance.
The ABI Windermer’s chassis is galvanised, plus it has full guttering and down pipes are there’s a slight front overhang on the roof with integral lighting.
Inside the ABI Windermere it’s typically ABI with modern fittings and using colour schemes that blend well. Grey overtones are used in the upholstery with a light wood finish on the furniture and cupboards.
The lounge comes with a two and three seater settee in grey with matching curtains and carpet.
A home-style electric fire is fitted along with a TV cabinet, large wodden mirror plus a wall cabinet. There isn’t much storage in the lounge and we feel the wall cabinet could be larger.
Moving into the kitchen area and it’s an L-shaped design that’s split with the dining table in the middle. In our review model, a dishwasher was fitted along with a microwave.
The kitchen also has an oven with gas hob and extractor fan there are plenty of cupboards and worktop space, which extends opposite where there are masses of cupboard space. Opposite the main kitchen is the microwave and fridge/freezer, plus a washing machine too. The dining table is placed in the middle and comes with a modern glass pendant three bulb light above it.
Go into the twin bedroom and this is ideal for children – it’s spacious and comes with a good-sized wardrobe and drawers beneath. There is a mirror as well as some built-in shelves for smaller items. Adults could also use this bedroom with no problems for space and its good-sized beds.
There’s a handy central bed cabinet with a double socket and a glass pendant light but an overhead cupboard would have just added that bit of extra storage here. There’s just a shelf running along the top of the padded headboards.
The main washroom is opposite the twin bedroom, it’s got a shower of course, and a loo, plus a generous-sized hand basin with storage below. There’s a mirrored wall cabinet above the hand basin with a mirror. The room is compact and practical and also has that ABI flair in décor.
In the main bedroom, guests will sleep in the luxury of a king-sized bed which has storage beneath. The spring-like décor of greens and greys makes the room look very bright and airy.
There’s a built-in dresser with a stool and a large mirror plus there’s a walk-in wardrobe on the window side of the bedroom offering good storage. Again overhead bed storage with wall units could have been the icing on the cake though a shelf is provided.
The main bedroom also comes with an en-suite which packs in a toilet, hand basin, and shower cubicle too. It’s not over generous in size but it does what it’s designed to do and it offers the main bedroom users their own separate washing facilities.
Verdict: The ABI Windermere static caravan offers a fair amount of space and general spec and we think the 13ft wide models will prove popular for buyers. There’s also a three-bedroom model for bigger families. We liked the décor and the overall finish and quality too.
Plus points: Large front lounge, great kitchen area, build quality is good, smart looking design
Minus points: No wall cupboards fitted in either bedroom above the bed, shallow storage cabinet in main living areas.
In a nutshell: The ABI Windermere is set to go ahead into 2024 with slight alterations but it’s proved a success this year and we can see why. Good looks and a modern interior that is easy to live with make this a rather nice static caravan!
