2023 Regal Charmouth static caravan walkthrough

Regal describes the new Charmouth as, amongst other things, ‘fresh and contemporary’. These words, whilst accurate, don’t do the Charmouth justice; it’s a delightfully light, bright and modern holiday caravan oozing style and functionality.

From the exterior it’s obvious that this is a striking static caravan, with the rigid Claystone vinyl cladding, black CanExel cladding on the front elevation and matching black fascias, soffits and guttering, the Charmouth stands out from the crowd of holiday caravans before you even step through the door. Or should I say ‘doors’.

There are two entry points to this caravan: the main door on the side in the middle of the unit, and the double patio doors at the front (either leading down steps as it is set up at Regal’s HQ and showground near Ringwood in the New Forest, or to a decking area looking out over your chosen park’s vista).

Let’s take a look inside the all-new Regal Charmouth static caravan:

Entering through the main door on the side of the Regal Charmouth static caravan, you step into a hallway. Ahead of you is the large coat cupboard and second bedroom; to the right, the master bedroom and bathroom and, to the left, behind a door, is the living space.

Step through that door and the Charmouth’s charm begins with the kitchen. It’s spacious, packed with storage, and stylish. It has all the refinements you would expect and some that you wouldn’t.

The worktop is marble-effect, the cabinetry is pale oak and the fixtures, fittings and handles are matt black – thoroughly modern and most definitely stylish. The cupboards above the kitchen surface feature recesses for bottles around the microwave, flanked by soft-closing cupboards.

Above the sink are more cupboards, along with shelves beneath them. In between these is the black gloss splashback and extractor fan for the hob and, adjacent to this, is the sink.

The sink is worthy of mention as it’s a style statement in itself. In fact it sums up the Regal Charmouth static caravan very well: Not only does it look good, but it has excellent functionality. The double sink has a sloped drainer and a flexible tap – the matt black and chrome kitchen tap can be moved over either of the sinks or over to the draining area for rinsing. Stylish, useful and clever.

Hidden away next to the sink is the integrated fridge-freezer and opposite this, on the other side of the holiday caravan, is a dresser-come-larder with a total of 19 separate recesses or compartments. Be it for food, a library or simply a mixture of everything that needs storing, the Charmouth’s storage solutions abound both in quantity and style.

In amongst all of this is the dining area, a four-seater table that almost looks retro. Almost. The table and chairs’ cylindrical legs taper towards the floor and the backrests are deeply curved; angled to support their occupants in a comfortable and upright posture.

Above the dining table are three pendant lights. Each one of the lights has a slightly different design but all are matt black metal cages and, crucially, are above head height, so if you decide to move the table, you won’t find your head the fourth part of a Newton’s Cradle of pendant lighting.

The kitchen and lounge are separated by a change in floor covering. The kitchen has a laminate oak parquet look and the lounge is carpeted in a multi-tonal grey/cream with a deep, soft pile.

Regal calls the styling in the Charmouth ‘Scandi botanical’ and it’s clear to see why – the bookshelf is made up of geometric shaped recesses; there’s a shelf structure made up of ever-larger quarter circles, held together by ocean grey supports.

The same ocean grey colour scheme appears on the feature fireplace’s vertical supports which, thanks to the slightly triangular construction, looks super modern and stylish, almost as if it came out of a well-known Scandinavian furniture manufacturer. But it’s not IKEA’s. It’s Regal’s!

There’s a corner TV stand and a central coffee table as well, all of which have the same cylindrical tapering legs as on the kitchen table.

The sofas are identical, both easily seating three people, or two reclining people. An optional lime green scatter cushion pack adds another colour dimension to the Regal Charmouth’s lounge, although (cleverly!) the entire colour palette for this holiday home can be seen in the curtains. Here the ‘botanical’ part of the design is fleshed out, all manner of plant/leaf/fans appear in a variety of greens, blues, yellows and greys. This might sound like it’s a very ‘busy’ colour scheme for the curtains but it manages to be restrained in its vibrancy. Another testament to the effort that has gone into the design of this static caravan.

In the centre of the lounge is another pendant light, in the same style as the kitchen ones but yet another slightly different metal frame. It’s in-line with the kitchen ones which, when you’re standing at the patio doorway, helps to create a feeling of depth in this one room with two personalities.

Leaving the living area and moving to the accommodation half of the Regal Charmouth static caravan, the theme of more storage than you can shake a stylish stick at continues.

In the entrance hallway is a coat cupboard, with four pegs next to the living room door. And it’s a good-sized cupboard. Also in the hallway is a boot repository next to the door and a mirror above it for checking that you look as immaculate as your holiday home before departing.

Mirrors in small spaces help to create a more spacious feeling, although this hallway isn’t small by holiday home standards, it’s another example of the lengths Regal has gone to in making this holiday caravan superb.

The second bedroom is next door, with two full-width single beds, complete with ‘botanical’ bed runners and cushions in a watercolour style of turquoises, greens and greys. There’s a bedhead in the Charmouth’s ocean grey theme and a large free-standing wardrobe with storage drawers at the bottom.

Towards the back of the unit, around a little corner in the hallway, is the family bathroom. Whilst not huge, there’s plenty of floor space in here and certainly doesn’t feel cramped.

There’s a large shower, a heated towel rail, and sink set atop a cabinet, all of which have matt black fittings.

The master bedroom, and its en-suite, span the entire width of the Regal Charmouth and have everything you’d expect in a much larger bedroom yet still with oodles of space.

There’s a very large wardrobe (so large that, were it not for the shelf at head height, could almost be described as a walk-in wardrobe), a dressing table complete with a large square mirror, a stool, and a selection of recesses for all your beauty or pampering needs.

The fabric bedhead is lime green and made up of three segments that really stand out against the ocean grey ‘feature wall’ that makes up the rear of the home. That same colour runs along the en-suite’s back wall, too.

The bedhead is almost recessed into the Charmouth’s rear wall, with two pendant lights hanging down from the roof of the recess. These hang over the two bedside units, featuring two drawers and an open recess for books and the like.

The en-suite has another large shower, basin and heated towel rail, all again with matt black fittings. Cosy? Yes. Modern? Certainly.

Verdict: All of the little design features combine to create a static caravan that is luxurious, stunningly modern and looks and feels expensive. All of this without actually being an expensive holiday home.

Plus points: A really well-designed layout with high-end fittings and fixtures. Lots of storage. Full-size single beds in the second bedroom

Minus points: None

In a nutshell: The Regal Charmouth is striking on the outside and stunning on the inside. However you use a holiday caravan, this affordable unit from Regal offers versatility and modernity, all encased in a thoroughly well-designed and very well-constructed unit.
