Holiday caravan owners reveal if they rent out their units…

Owning a static caravan or holiday lodge means you’ve always got a special place to escape to. But for some owners, there’s also the option of renting it out to holidaymakers to help cover the running costs.

Family hiring out a holiday caravan

So, in our recent poll we asked owners if they hired out their holiday caravan or lodge? And after more than 2oo votes, here’s how you voted and what you had to say…

Hiring out poll results…

The majority of owners told us they prefer to keep their holiday caravan or lodge just for themselves (36%), while 30% are happy to share it with family or friends without charging.

Site rules play a big part too, with nearly a quarter (23%) saying their holiday park doesn’t allow hiring at all.

Only a small number – eight percent – told us they used their unit to generate income, and just three per cent might consider it in the future.

What owners said…

As always, holiday caravanners gave us valuable insight into their decisions:

Anne Marchant said: “It is the holiday park’s policy that lodges are not rented out, however family and friends can stay in them, which we really like as they also get to experience the joy we get from owning our beautiful lodge and also know we are insured with Leisuredays.”

Yvonne Walton added: “We bought our static as a home from home. The site is allowing owners to rent out when the new contracts are issued. We have no intention of renting and not happy about it.”

Alan Thomas Ludlow told us: “The caravan park only allows the owners to allow family friends/relations to use the caravan which they own.”

These responses highlight the mix of personal preference and park rules that shape whether owners rent out or keep their holiday caravans private.

Protecting your holiday home

Whether you choose to keep your static caravan purely for family use, or decide to rent it out for income, it’s important to have the right insurance.
