Boost to improve rural 4G connectivity

Welcome news for holiday caravanners…The UK Government is moving forward with plans to deliver better mobile phone coverage in rural areas.

The £1.3 billion Shared Rural Network (SRN) programme aims to provide high quality 4G coverage to 95 per cent of the UK by 2025.

Four of the UK’s telecom major mobile phone companies will also invest in a new network of phone masts, which they will share, to try to eliminate partial “not-spots” often found on many holiday parks and campsites.

The Government funding will pay for new masts to be built five metres higher and enabling mobile network operators to fit more equipment on them to provide even more 4 and 5G coverage.

Matt Warman, UK minister for digital infrastructure said the propsals would allow the Government to “push on with making patchy or poor coverage a thing of the past.”  Adding that “Mobile firms are making great progress boosting 4G and 5G services in countryside communities as part of their side of this landmark agreement.”

Subject to planning approvals the new tallermasts also include slimline “monopole” masts up to 15 metres high.

  1. Yes I think it is time the government helped the caravan parks get better Internet connections they have been let down for years .

  2. We would definitely like better coverage the minute we step in our caravan we loose all wi fi network and loose connection with phone calls. We have spoken to the park and have been told it’s the fault of the network providers and to speak to them. We can purchase wi Fi from the park but this is expensive.

  3. Coverage in our Cumbria caravan site is very poor, in fact has deteriorated in the last few months?! Will be contacting my provider soon and although there is a paid WFI connection on site that’s very poor and slow so not worth it either unfortunately. Better connection can’t come soon enough!!

  4. I think it would be great to have coverage at the caravan park but it looks like it will cost the same as it does at home which we couldn’t afford

  5. Our holiday park is in South Worcestershire, and the current coverage is just about usable but has significantly deteriorated over the last year, better connection would be greatly appreciated and is long overdue
