New 2013 Wessex Freedom Plus Lodge review

Wessex lodge exterior

The Freedom Plus, made by Wessex Park and Leisure Homes, is a new model for 2013.

We entered via the side aspect door and on the right is a large cupboard which houses the washer dryer which is included in the equipment specification and the Ariston combi-boiler, “A” rated for efficiency.

Kitchen view

The wood panelled lime washed floor leads to the U shaped kitchen, well specified with a fridge, freezer and dishwasher. The single electric oven and combination microwave are built in as a stainless steel tower and impressive it looks too. The ceramic hob is set in butcher’s block effect worktop with a very stylish curved glass and stainless steel extractor fan. We liked the unusual looking kitchen units described as Avola white with deep grained feature.

Dining area

The kitchen is part of the open plan living and dining area and the look is minimalistic with two sets of French doors in the living area and floor to ceiling windows creating the illusion of a larger than actual space. The doors are framed by full length curtains in a charcoal and biscuit fabric; the windows have Venetian style blinds.

lounge area

The television is standard equipment and set in a white feature surround which has integral storage for CDs and DVDs cleverly designed into the frame. The two sumptuous looking sofas upholstered in contemporary mottled blend of both cream and latte hues are well placed to enjoy the sounds and the views. They blend well with the Rich Truffle feature wall.

Four white retro look chairs with chrome legs surround the traditional oak dining table which has a well-placed pendant light over it.

Master bedroom

The master bedroom is a place for a peaceful night’s sleep with a 5ft divan bed framed by built in bedside cabinets. The room seems large, no wardrobes or chest of drawers as these are in the walk-in dressing room; do note the unusual Sobrano high gloss drawer fronts! The dressing room leads to the heated en-suite shower room which sports a large rectangular shower tray. Porcelain sanitary ware is built into light oak framework; we did think that the lack of a towel rail and a shaver socket was an oversight.

Twin room

The second bedroom is fitted with twin beds, but children might like bunk beds, but will take a double bed and it has a big walk-in wardrobe too. It’s well appointed so your guests will want to return for another weekend!

Bathroom

The family bathroom is half tiled around the bath and the basin and toilet are built into light oak framework. As in the en-suite there is a huge wall hung mirror which gives an illusion of space.

Verdict

This is an entry level lodge, with a certain caché. The combination of contemporary design with a hint of retro with light, yet warm, colour scheme is surprisingly appealing. It’s spacious, with vaulted ceilings throughout. The front aspect of the exterior is eye-catching with cream Smart Panel finish and wood panelling between the French doors that have a “pare-brise” over each door.

Ex-works price £70.000.00 including VAT.
