Calling all static caravanners! Would you ever consider switching to a lodge?

We’re always interested to hear what our readers think about certain topics, whether it’s holidaying, insurance, manufacturing or the leisure industry in general!

This month we want to get static caravanners’ thoughts on holiday lodges in particluar to find out whether you would consider swapping your static caravan for one?

Static or lodge - would you swap?

We’ve reviewed quite a few lodges in our news pages.

Lodges could be seen as a more luxurious alternative to a static caravan. Usually twin units and fitted out with high spec kitchens and bathrooms, they’re often built to the same residential standards as park homes and therefore more suited for all year round use.

However, with all that extra spec comes a price tag much higher than your typical static caravan.

But what do you think about them – would you ever consider switching to a lodge?

Or perhaps you already own a lodge and can tell us about your experience.

  1. We use to have a static which we really loved, and we looked at a lodge on another of there sites which we fell in love with and we love to get away as much as possible as the break does us the world of good due to the pressure of work, when we looked at the lodge we liked the idea of more space which we love as we have dogs and love to invite family and friends round.

  2. I swaped my static caravan for a lodge 2 years ago and wish I had not. Having spent a great deal of cash purchasing the lodge (2 years old at the time) we have had nothing but trouble with it since purchase, we have spent the last 2 seasons carrying out repairs to exterior coatings / cladding using manufacturers original products and instructions and still have problems. There has been many communications to the manufacturer and discussions with the site owners but all to no avail, I have not experienced one bit of “leisure” in the 2 years I have owned it.

Unless you want to spend all your time carrying out exterior maintenance, don’t touch one, stick with your static caravan, I never had any problems with mine during my 12 year ownership and it was as good as new when I sold it. My lodge in its present state is an “eyesore” and nobody wants to know.

  3. Would like the larger space offered, yet Lodges I`ve viewed often don’t seem to wear as well as Statics.

  4. The depreciation on a static is bad enough, but horrendous on a Lodge. Might as well buy a brick building thsn a Lodge. That would even appreciate in value, not devalue down to nil.

  5. I own a willerby vogue connoisseur and am very happy with all the specification which are high quality. I spend most of the year including winter living in it and have had minimal problems. I have looked at lodges, some are fantastic but at present feel my static fulfills my needs. Would consider a lodge in future though.

    1. Interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts on switching from a static to a lodge. Keep the comments coming everyone.

  6. We visit our static every other weekend along with holidays. Getting away from home and feeling we are somewhere different the static plays a huge part of that. We’ve stayed in many lodges and whilst they are brilliant they feel very ‘housey’ Which we dont get from our caravan.

  7. we had a static on lowther park Penrith and took the jump to a log cabin best thing we ever did sorry to hear of Ian problems we on our site have loads of support of the management
