The company, which has 15 model ranges and some 32 layouts, has been one of the mainstays of the holiday home industry for over 60 years so we were delighted to be able to review one of its most popular models &#8211; the 35ft x 12ft Avon Lodge &#8211; one of the two layouts in this range.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Living area inside the Avon Lodge \" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanguard.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_2799.jpg\" alt=\"Living-area-inside-the-Avon-Lodge \" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" \/<\/p>\n<p>The first thing that needs to be said about the home is that a galvanised chassis and PCVU double glazing are just two of several options available. Whilst we were not overly concerned about the double glazing, it\u2019s worth bearing in mind that this is a holiday lodge which might well be sited near the sea and so a non-galvanised chassis risks corrosion from the salt in the atmosphere. Buyers also have a choice of vinyl, timber or Canexel cladding whilst the pitched roof has pantile effect, Plastisol-coated galvanised steel tiles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"The dining area inside the Avon Lodge \" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanguard.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_2804.jpg\" alt=\"The-dining-area-inside-the-Avon-Lodge \" width=\"246\" height=\"165\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Fridge and storage inside the Avon Lodge \" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanguard.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_2805-266x400.jpg\" alt=\"Fridge-and-storage-inside-the-Avon-Lodge \" width=\"184\" height=\"275\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Internally the layout is fairly conventional for a single unit lodge of this size with the lounge and dining areas being on the left as you enter; the kitchen is opposite the doorway, and the shower room and bedrooms are on the right of the entrance through a door from the kitchen. It is also worth mentioning that immediately on the right as you come into the lodge there is a cupboard for the optional central heating followed by space for a free-standing fridge\/freezer. Above the space is a shelf for an optional microwave.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The ceiling is vaulted throughout the lodge and there is a bay window in the end wall of the lounge. Below the window is a three seat sofa incorporating an optional fold out bed. A second two seat sofa on the home\u2019s front wall \u2013 at 90 degrees to the three seater \u2013 faces a flame effect electric fire mounted on the on the opposite side of the lounge. Other standard furniture includes a small side table and a base unit with storage facilities along the low level wall separating the lounge from the kitchen. Although a flat screen TV is an option a multi outlet TV booster is included as standard. Standard dining furniture comprises a rectangular table and four upholstered chairs with extra chairs being available as yet another option.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Avon Lodge Kitchen Area \" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanguard.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_2803.jpg\" alt=\"Avon-Lodge-Kitchen-Area \" width=\"365\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Standard kitchen appliances are fairly sparse comprising a gas cooker and grill with electronic ignition and an externally vented extractor. However, on the plus side, there is plenty of storage and worktop space \u2013 more in fact than in some similar size holiday caravans. And in addition to the optional microwave and fridge\/freezer, there is space for an optional dishwasher or washer\/dryer.<\/p>\n<p>The shower room has a full depth shower cubicle plus a ceramic pedestal washbasin with a mirror door storage cabinet on the wall above it. The washbasin has been fitted with a single lever mixer tap. Completing the appliances here is a low level toilet and an extractor fan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Avon Lodge wash and shower room \" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanguard.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_2807-266x400.jpg\" alt=\"Avon-Lodge-wash-and-shower-room \" width=\"239\" height=\"360\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Opposite the shower room is the second bedroom. Although it has two single divan beds there is very little room to walk between them. Despite this there is room for a small bedside cabinet, whilst above the beds \u2013 which have a common padded headboard \u2013 there\u2019s an open shelf and a row of wall cupboards. On the wall facing the beds is a framed mirror and in the corner opposite the bed on the outside wall, a wardrobe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Twin room Pemberton Avon \" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanguard.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_2811.jpg\" alt=\"Twin-room-Pemberton-Avon \" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The main bedroom spans the full width of the lodge and comes with double bed with a padded headboard and two reading lights. To the right of the bed as you enter the room is a dressing table with drawers and a cupboard plus a stool and free-standing mirror, whilst running along the left-hand wall to the door to the en suite toilet are three floor to ceiling wardrobes. In addition to a low level toilet fitted in one corner of the en suite there is also a pedestal washbasin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Double bedroom in the Avon Lodge \" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanguard.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_2814.jpg\" alt=\"Double-bedroom-in-the-Avon-Lodge \" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Verdict:<\/strong>\u00a0The Avon Lodge is very much an entry level holiday lodge which is capable of being upgraded by the addition of a galvanised chassis, double glazing and central heating.
