Pathfinder is best known for its large lodges. The new Hollicombe lodge, though, is a departure from that trend. This is what is termed a ‘single’ lodge.
At 14ft wide, it might be smaller than the majority of homes in the Pathfinder portfolio, but the Hollicombe lacks nothing in terms of the level of luxury that buyers can expect from Pathfinder Homes.
It’s surely designed as a leisure abode but, being built to BS 3632 residential standard, it’s equally suitable for use as a permanent park home.
This home has a strong beach theme – named after a beach on the coastline that is known as the English Riviera. Hollicombe Beach sits between Paignton and Torquay, yet it’s not well-known and is really rather special. Rock pools, red sand, backed by spectacular cliffs – and a sheltered location to which you walk through Hollicombe Gardens to get there; the scene is set for family holiday paradise, which is surely why Pathfinder chose the name.
The Pathfinder Hollicombe’s exterior finish owes to its beach name; it’s a sandy-coloured CanExcel. Inside, the predominant tone is grey, teamed with white. The whole look is ultra-modern, with some outstanding features.
Among them is a tall, wall radiator. The usual style for this type of radiator is, of course, vertical panels. Pathfinder, though, chose a stunningly different design for the radiator in the Hollicombe’s lounge – eight white pipes that intertwine in the centre of the radiator.
Another amazing feature is the dining table top, which is made of quartz, sitting on a plain chrome frame.
The predominant white and pale grey is interrupted in the lounge for a feature wall in horizontally aligned mid-grey planking; the same shade is used for the section of ceiling above the dining table. Somehow, the injection of this shade creates a subtle beach vibe.
A beautiful metal-trimmed globe, triple-light, lantern hangs over the table and a stark, black-framed, coal-effect fire, backlit with an orange hue, provides a warm focal point for the Pathfinder Hollicombe.
Full-height windows and French doors make sure that this is a room bathed in natural light. As much as this is an ultra-modern environment, the lounge is a cosy room, with a velvet-upholstered, three-seater sofa. Pale grey curtains hang on chunky steel poles over three of the windows; the fourth has a Venetian blind.
The kitchen leads off the dining area. It’s an L-shape, with pale grey units which have brass knobs and handles that are a nod to Shaker style.
The surface is pure white – and there’s a lot of it, in three areas, to the left of the hob, between the hob and the sink, and in the L-shaped end. A dishwasher, along with a fridge-freezer and oven, are integrated into the cabinet run.
Beyond the kitchen are the two bedrooms – a double and a twin.
The double bedroom has a deep, terracotta coloured headboard spanning the width of the room.
It has a dressing area equipped with a mirror and stool, a built-in wardrobe and, of course, an en-suite shower room, half-tiled and luxurious, in common with every area of the Pathfinder Hollicombe. It’s equipped with a tall chrome towel warmer.
The twin bedroom has two built-in wardrobes, plus a dressing area.
In the Hollicombe’s main shower room, the shower is luxuriously large, extending to the full length of the room. Both a drench shower and a directional rose are fitted.
A large basin sits atop, yet is integrated into, the cabinet unit.
Verdict: If you’re looking for a single-sized lodge and also want cool, modern styling, you’ve found it in the Pathfinder Hollicombe. The use of grey and white creates a coastal look, trimmed with niceties, including an amazing feature radiator and a stunning pendant light over the dining table.
Pathfinder’s base is in Devon and the Hollicombe, named after a beach that’s just eight miles from the factory, seems to epitomise the stylish offering from this company that specialises in luxury lodges of many different characters.
Plus points: Lovely pale grey and white super modern scheme. Well-planned L-shaped kitchen. Everything you need in a narrow format.
Minus points: You might want a larger lodge – but Pathfinder provides several from which to choose!
In a nutshell: Stylish, elegant and relaxing, and with a beach vibe, the Pathfinder Hollicombe single lodge is a refreshing take on the lodge theme.
