BK Bluebird Carnival Reviewed

BK Bluebird Carnival exterior

The Lawns Show saw the BK Bluebird name rising like a phoenix from the ashes of the recession. Earlier this year, having closed the BK factory in Poole Dorset, Willerby decided to re-establish BK Bluebird as one of its divisions. As a result BK had its own stand at the Lawns show in September, with examples of its four ranges being displayed. Amongst these was the 35ft x 12ft three bedroom Carnival holiday home. The layout for a two bedroom version will be announced later and plans for other models are also expected in due course.

Inside the Bluebird Carnival

The standard chassis is coated black with pre-galvanise as an option. The exterior is clad in aluminium with a steel pantile pitched roof which overhangs the lounge windows at the end of the home. The entrance leads into the lounge/dining and kitchen area which between them take up about 50 per cent of the Carnival’s floor area. Immediately to the right of the entrance is a tall cupboard housing the boiler followed by a space for a fridge, whilst facing the entrance is the U-shaped kitchen.

TV and fireplace in the Bluebird Carnival

This is well appointed with a large gas cooker with electronic ignition, but sadly a cooker hood is an optional extra. No problem about the work-top space however – the Carnival has plenty. There is also plenty of storage in the base units and wall cupboards. And there’s even a dedicated space above the fridge for a microwave.

Dining area in the BK Bluebird

The dining area in front of the kitchen has fixed L-shaped seating designed to take four people, the other two – this being a three bedroom home – having to sit on two stools. Opposite the dining area is further fixed seating running the length of the front wall of the home to a point halfway across the window in the end wall. At night one of the seats makes into a sofa bed. In the corner between the end wall and the rear wall is a unit containing a gas fire with provision for a TV above it.

Twin bedroom in the Carnival holiday home

The main sleeping accommodation comprises two bedrooms large enough to take two single beds each, and a main bedroom with a double bed. Bearing in mind that this is a single unit holiday home, clothes storage is not great. Although the home doesn’t have a bathroom the shower room more than makes up for the lack of one.

Verdict

The BK Bluebird Carnival is an good choice for anyone looking to buy a starter holiday home. It also comes with a number of options such as double glazing, central heating, and an extractor above the cooker.  We think it represents good value for money.
