With an ex works price of £15,369.99 the 28ft x 10ft Tebay Platinum two bedroom static caravan offers amazing value for money. Launched as part of a new six model line up for the 2012 season it is a home which we think should be on the list of possibles for anyone looking for a new budget priced static caravan.
As a budget home at the lower end of the market it’s not surprising that the Platinum comes with a very basic specification. For example, it has a painted chassis, isn’t double glazed, doesn’t have central heating, or an integrated fridge freezer, microwave, or fume extractor. But all are available if finances allow.
Externally, the unit is aluminium clad, has a pitched pantile roof, domestic guttering and downpipes plus bay windows in the end wall of the lounge. On entering, the main bedroom is to the right with the second bedroom immediately opposite the front door. To the left of the doorway is the kitchen which is nothing if not basic.
But having said that, it has everything necessary for holiday cooking, plus space for the optional extras whether they are supplied as part of the purchase or in the case of the fridge and microwave, at a later date. Basic equipment comprises a stainless steel single sink and drainer and a twin cavity gas oven with electronic ignition, together with a number of wall and floor cupboards. Working top space is best described as adequate rather than generous.
A door to the right of the base unit housing the oven leads into the shower room. The shower cubicle is large enough for the job and comes complete with a thermostatically controlled mixer head. Elsewhere in the room is a low level toilet and a pedestal washbasin with a mixer tap above which is a mirror door wall cupboard.
The lounge and dining area at the end of the home is – as you would expect in a home measuring 28ft x 10ft – fairly small. L shaped seating – which includes an occasional bed – runs along the front wall and across the end wall to the entertainment unit in the corner. This unit has a number of floor and wall cupboards and also houses the home’s gas fire. Above the fire is a large mirror. Next to the unit is the dining area which again, features fixed seating plus two upholstered stools, and a shaped dining table. Adequate for four, but six …?
The second bedroom, opposite the entrance to the home has a pair of space saver beds resulting in only a very narrow aisle between them. There are also two wall cupboards above one of the beds with a shortened wall-mounted wardrobe next to them.
The main bedroom comes with a double bed – not kingsize – with lift up storage. Above the bed are two wall cupboards separated by open shelving. Facing the foot of the bed is a double wardrobe and next to it, a small dressing table, mirror, and stool.
As we said at the start, the Tebay Platinum is a basic static caravan offering very good value for money coming as it does from one of the industry’s leading manufacturers. We feel that it would be particularly suitable for a couple who are on the point of retiring and are looking for a no-frills home where they can spend their leisure time.
