Festive holiday caravan plans revealed

Ahead of the festive season, we asked static caravan and holiday lodge owners how they planned to spend Christmas and New Year – and the results show just how popular winter breaks at a holiday home can be.

More than 160 readers voted in our festive poll, giving us a great insight into how owners chose to celebrate.

For many owners, their static caravan or holiday lodge clearly plays a big part in their festive plans, while others are happy to enjoy a traditional celebration at home and look ahead to trips later in the year.

The festive poll results at a glance

  • 51% said yes – they were celebrating Christmas or New Year in their static caravan or lodge

  • 43% said no – they were spending Christmas or New Year at home

  • 1% said they were heading abroad for some winter sun

  • 5% selected “other”, possibly due to park closures or winter shutdowns

Your comments…

We also invited readers to share their plans in the comments, and it was great to hear such a mix of experiences.

Kath Drummond said: “It’s our first year as owners and we can’t wait to get away on 27th Dec to spend New Year in the Highlands! Happy Christmas everyone and best wishes for 2026!”

Emma P highlighted the appeal of a peaceful winter stay: “Yes I will stay some of the holiday so I can enjoy the peace. And friends can come with me – we sit and play games and look out at the other vans having family and friends.”

For some owners like Peter Day, park closures meant a festive break wasn’t possible. “Our site is closed until mid March,” he commented.

Karen Day added: “Our site is closed now and our static caravan has been drained down till spring, so home is where we will be celebrating this festive season and looking forward to returning to Wales next year.”

And for Lesley and Philip Hughes, it was a Christmas to remember: “It’s our first Christmas in our static. We absolutely love being here so spending the Christmas break was a no brainer!! Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year to all our fellow caravan and lodge lovers.”
