How long is your park closed for in winter?

POLL NOW CLOSED – Thanks to everyone who voted!

Owning a static caravan or holiday is great for regular breaks away whatever the weather – even in winter!

A growing number of holiday parks seem to be remaining open for longer periods to satisfy increased demand for winter holidays. But they often do have to close for a short period to comply with their holiday park licence and often to carry out essential maintenance or refurbishment work.

As winter draws to a close, in this month’s community poll we’d like to know how long your park is closed for in winter?

If you’re able to stay in your static caravan or lodge for some part of winter we’d love to hear what the best thing about being able to enjoy an out-of-season retreat.

We’ll announce the results next month and publish some of our favourite comments.

And don’t forget, when leaving your caravan or lodge unoccupied from November 1st to March 15th, you must drain down to prevent burst pipes and to meet the conditions of your holiday caravan insurance policy. Although the drain procedure is much more simple when your park remains open and you’re using your caravan in these months.

  1. It is lovely waking up in a toasty warm caravan on a cold, crisp winter morning. Less people use the park in the winter months so it is quieter. It is lovely to have the option of staying in your holiday home for Christmas and/or New Year.

  2. Would love to be able to use the caravan for some of winter. Caravan is winterised and of residential standard so well insulated. There are no facilities on the site that need to be opened during this period- the vans are all self sufficient.

  3. Park published a 1 month closure date but we have a 12 month agreement. Love spending time over winter period on site when all is peaceful and environment has changed down a gear for some extra rest and relaxation. Snow and winter sun in the Yorkshire Dales can be so spectacular…..

  4. We have loved getting away through the winter, it’s so interesting to be able to see the area throughout all the seasons, and there is something very excillerating to being by the coast and sea during the winter.
We draw the curtains and our van is so cosy and havnt found it too cold at all.

  5. it would be great to spend Christmas in the caravan if the site was open, but with winterising all the soft furnishings and draining down it would be too much hassle just for a few days, and as our site is on a beautiful small island on the Clyde coast the ferries can be disrupted by bad weather and it can get pretty wet and wild Nov-March. Happy campers all other months.

  6. The first year we haven’t drained down. And we have really enjoyed using it in jan/feb. All wrapped wrapped up and peaceful walks along the beaches.also no crasy traffic ams. We will not be draining down against.

    1. Great to hear you’ve enjoyed spending time at your caravan in January and February. You mentioned that you haven’t drained down this winter. Please remember that it’s a condition of a Leisuredays’ static caravan insurance policy to drain down between November 1st and March 15th, every time you leave your holiday caravan unoccupied overnight or if your park is closed. Draining down your static caravan helps to protect your caravan from damage and to make sure you’re covered for damage caused by freezing water or escape of water in the event of an insurance claim. Thanks, Liz

  7. Wouldn’t want it any different on East Coast too expensive site fees on 12months sites

  8. I think our site is closed for too long. They should remain open for weekend breaks.

  9. Would love to stay longer at the Park to enjoy the tranquility and use of the facilities when it’s less busier out of season.

  10. It would be lovely to stay in the van longer during the winter. As a single person it is hard trying to save the extra money needed to rent properties during the shut down. I love being on site I feel so safe and am able to go for walks and meet other people going for walks and it is good for mental health, seeing the wildlife in the woods and early spring flowers and waking up to the dawn chorus.

  11. HI only closed for the month of February i have spent many a year at xmas & new year it is some of the best times to be on site crisp clear day walking along the beach and a scotch to finish the day

  12. We close January and February far too long….no facilities on site so can’t understand why we close.we were allowed to stay because of Covid last year the whole time….wish we could stay always. It’s safe peaceful and a great community.

  13. Our site closes from 21st Jan to 21st March, As for maintenance when we go back nothing has changed.
