Carpets in static caravans are subject to the same footfall pounding, muddy dog paws and general wear as any carpet in your home. Replacing a carpet in a house is easy – carpet showrooms and associated fitters are in every town. But how about a static caravan? We’ve been looking at some of the options.
We quickly found that there are companies that specialise in replacing carpets – and also vinyl flooring – in holiday caravans. But they’re far less numerous than domestic carpet suppliers/fitters. Some operate on a regional basis. Check towards the bottom of this article for details of specialist caravan and lodge carpet and flooring suppliers.

Is it worth replacing carpets in your static caravan?
Yes, it can certainly freshen up a caravan or lodge that’s a few years old for not much money. That is assuming you intend to keep your caravan for a few years. That said, if you’re planning to sell or trade up soon, a new carpet could also reflect positively in the sale price, particularly if you’re selling privately. However, if it’s reached an age where your site agreement demands a newer model, it might be a waste of money.

Buying a pre-owned holiday home
This is where carpet replacement can be super important. The previous owners might not have had a no-shoes rule, or it might have been hired out, so general footfall might have made the carpet look dull and worn– or may have left mud marks that can’t entirely be removed. Or you may want to upgrade to a carpet of higher quality, to inject a cosier feel.
Similarly, vinyl flooring in kitchen areas might have suffered from the rigours of general use.
Transform your holiday caravan’s appearance
The entire appearance of your static caravan or holiday lodge’s interior could be transformed by new floor covering. Perhaps in a more on-trend colour. For vinyl-covered areas, introducing a pattern such as herringbone, which would enhance the feeling of space.

If you’ve bought a pre-owned static caravan, there’s always the possibility that the floor might need maintenance – there might have been water ingress, spills or a leak; someone may have used a lot of water to remove a mark on the carpet, resulting in unseen dampness beneath it. Or, in a shower or toilet room, a plumbing leak in the past might have damaged the vinyl flooring or, indeed, the floor underneath. All these things can be tackled by a company that knows caravan construction and has the knowledge to cure the problem – and then fit new floor coverings.
So, there are many reasons for considering an update on floor coverings.
Omar Refurbishment Services
One company that specialises in replacing floor coverings of all sorts in lodges, and also park homes, is a division of the giant Omar Group, which manufactures lodges and park homes. Omar Refurbishment Services offers a comprehensive service that starts with a survey and involves helping customers to choose their ideal carpet, laminate or vinyl floor covering.
David Clarke, Refurbishment Services Manager, explains: “We generally undertake floor covering replacements of an entire lodge or park home. That’s usually what customers need, rather than just individual rooms. Or we replace a kitchen floor covering as part of a complete new kitchen installation.
“Cost is dependent on a number of factors including the distance our team needs to travel from our base in Suffolk, and includes how much detailed work is involved, in cutting around bathroom furniture, for example.”
Omar’s showground at its head office in Brandon, Suffolk, has two sample rooms, where customers can visit to choose their ideal floor covering from a vast selection of samples.

Omar Refurbishment Services offers replacement flooring on units in a wide age range. David Clarke says: “Some are nearly new. Others maybe 10-20 years old, or older, depending on the condition of the lodge or park home.”

Willerby
We also turned to the UK’s largest manufacturer of static caravans for information on floor coverings. Willerby says replacing a carpet will “make a huge difference to the look of your caravan, feel lovely under your feet and could help you to keep warmer in winter.”
And this advice: “You could go for another carpet – maybe something nice and deep pile for the ultimate in luxury. Or you could consider laminate flooring for ease of cleaning. It all depends on how you use your caravan and how you want it to look and function.”
Willerby points out that fitting a carpet or laminate flooring in a caravan is very similar to doing it in a house – so if you’ve done that in a house, you’re probably competent enough to tackle it in your caravan.
Willerby adds: “Make sure you use good quality underlay, and be prepared that there will be lots of tricky cutting to get that perfect fit.”
Willerby also points out that, if you don’t want to tackle an entire carpet replacement, adding rugs can make a big difference to the cosy look, as our image from Willerby shows.
