It seems the Coronavirus pandemic has boosted the UK staycation, as many holidaymakers avoid foreign travel and are investing in static caravan ownership.

The results of our recent community poll reveal there are plenty of static caravanning “newbies” after we asked owners how long they’d owned a caravan.

More than 400 owners voted and over a third (36 percent) said they’d owned their holiday caravan for just five years or less – 9 percent for one year or less.

A further fifth of owners (20 percent) have been caravanning on UK holiday parks for six to 10 years.

Just 10 percent of those polled have owned a holiday caravan for more than 31 years.

Static caravan owner comments

Commenting on their reasons for static caravan ownership, Royston Bruce-Roberts, said it was a great way to holiday as he and his partner were both retired.

Richard Hadfield said owning a static caravan was “easy to relax, especially if you’re in the right area” and that there was “no hassle with airports”.
Long-serving caravanner, Lorraine Walker, told us that ownership was “all about family memories through four generations.”
She went on to say that her holiday caravan was full of family photos and inherited ornaments. “We love our site as it is well maintained, friendly, with a small pool for the grandchildren and dog- friendly. Only an hour’s distance from home with lovely beaches. Smiles all round!”
